My Journey to Celebrancy

Many years ago, I had a humanist celebrant officiate my wedding ceremony. As someone who isn't particularly religious and who wanted a ceremony that truly MEANT something to us (and our friends and families), it was perfect: personal, relevant, and fun. It told our story exactly as we wanted it told.

After the ceremony, I said to my wife that I'd LOVE to do this sort of work. To create something so special and so personal for the biggest days of people's lives! In the years after our wedding, I attended a few more celebrant-led weddings and funerals, and every time I felt the same: 'I'D LOVE TO DO THIS!'

As a professional script writer and voiceover artist, I'd spent all my working life writing bespoke scripts for other people, and getting up in front of audiences to deliver them. I love people. I love writing. I love telling stories. And so training to be a celebrant really was meant to be.

Fast forward a few years... and finally becoming a celebrant was the best decision I ever made!

What Makes Me Different

Professional Background

My background in voiceover work, script writing, and acting means I understand the power of words and how to deliver them with genuine impact. Every ceremony I create is crafted with the same attention to detail and storytelling expertise that I bring to my professional work.

The Perfect Balance

I can write traditional style ceremonies or something more relaxed. What makes my approach unique is my ability to strike the balance between delivering an engaging ceremony whilst bringing out those more serious and meaningful messages.

My Values

Connection - I am very much a 'people person'! I love getting to know each couple in order to tell their personal story.

Empathy and Calm - My friends tell me that I am naturally empathetic, a great listener, and that it takes a lot to stress me out! As a celebrant, empathy and understanding are at the heart of my work; and my goal is to be a calm, reassuring presence for you in your time of joy, nervousness or excitement.

Inclusivity - Complete respect for all beliefs, all backgrounds, all love stories. From traditional ceremonies to Harry Potter themed weddings, my job is to create a ceremony that shouts "YOU"!

My Approach

My goal is to make the planning process as easy and stress-free as possible for my clients. Once you contact me via email or my website, I will send you some further information and then if you want to go ahead, we will have an initial consultation (usually via Zoom) to see if I'm the right celebrant for you! If you decide that I am, I will send you a couple’s questionnaire and booking form, so that I can begin to write your bespoke ceremony script.

We work together however best suits you - video calls, emails, in-person - until you have a ceremony script that you are 100% happy with. For weddings, I am happy to coordinate with other vendors to ensure everything runs smoothly. Post-ceremony, I will provide digital copies of all materials and a beautifully presented commemorative certificate.

Living in Paradise

I'm based in The Forest of Bowland - a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is a very popular area in which to get married and there are many stunning venues for wedding ceremonies. The beautiful Lancashire hills are a real inspiration when writing! And our very changeable climate means I know how to adapt quickly to still make a ceremony run smoothly - even if the weather has different ideas!
